Having a formal home library has always sounded to me like a luxury reserved for a small sliver of the human population. However, after having spent a week thinking about home libraries for my daily explorations with artificial intelligence and interior design , I’ve grown increasingly convinced that it’s something I should work towards with unflinchingly steady resolve! :-)
A book lover ever since I can remember, my changing tastes over the years can be seen by glancing through the seemingly disconnected titles that stare back at me from my bookshelves - each of them telling not just the story between the covers, but also the story of where I was in my life when I read or reread each particular book.
Now a parent of a young child, my very first books are enjoying a second life, and it’s a bizarre but wonderful experience to read these books again - with 40 year old flashbacks hitting me with every page turn. A few of these old books even have tiny holes eaten through all of the pages by actual book ‘worms’! I’m immensely grateful that my mother held onto these books long enough for our family’s next generation to inherit them.
Rather than being a luxury, perhaps having a dedicated place at home where books rule supreme should actually be a standard feature of every home with the means to make it happen. This little post is dedicated to reading books at home, in cosy comfortable places, whatever that might look like for you…
WISHING YOU MANY HOURS OF HAPPY READING!
I’ve collected books for years and creating a library space was one of my must-haves when we bought our home three years ago. I think having a dedicated spot to celebrate your books helps you read more. I commandeered the front rooms of our house to be a library with a cozy reading chair and it’s my favorite room of the house!
I love these ides and find inspiration in all of them. My library is a lot of crowded shelves and 2 tall piles beside my bed - I now feel these arrangements need some more love! Thank you for the ideas and prompt!
